Enabling Service Delivery

April 2008: Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council secures new broadband deal

Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council has secured a new deal that prevents price increases for our Schools for their Broadband services for up to seven years.

The Council has bucked a national trend, which has seen recharges for schools for Broadband rise by up to 27 per cent, by signing the deal with Logicalis and the Welsh Assembly Government’s Public Sector Broadband Aggregation framework.

With 14,000 employees and 288 sites, the Council relies on high speed, high capacity broadband for its voice and data communications to sustain its day to day business and service delivery.

As well as enabling our critical business systems to be accessible, the new contract includes improved terms and conditions that also mean the Council is committed to exploring further efficiencies from its neighbourhood network throughout the RCT region, in other words, to assess opportunities for sharing its network with other public bodies.

Leigh Gripton, Service Director (Customer Care & ICT) said “When you look at the size of this Council, the number of people we employ locally and the sheer number of transactions we make via e-mail, telephone, internet and via internal business systems, you can see why it is vital for us to have a robust and effective broadband network.

“We are delighted to have worked with the Welsh Assembly Government to award a contract to Logicalis that provides greater value for money and opportunities to collaborate with other public bodies”.
