LUK successfully tested the failover of the Internet connections PSBA wide during April. The scale of failover cannot be under estimated; the complexity of failing over the internet for approximately 2000 sites with minimal distribution is seen as a significant success.

PSBA are pleased to announce that the following organizations have signed up to the PSBA Network their preferred communication network.

A major milestone was reached on 27 April when the contract with Siemens was completed. This gave the green light to both the Siemens and PSBA teams to press ahead with the project to establish the services in time for a number of pilot sites to come on stream by the end of the Summer. These are likely to include 3 Unitary Authorities, 2 Colleges and the NHS.

Dave Hylands, a long standing supporter of the PSBA project, has announced his retirement, and the PSBA Management Board will miss his valuable insight and input when he leaves at the end of January. Dave, the Chief Information Systems Officer at Wrexham County Borough Council, has invested his time in taking the PSBA project from a great idea to an invaluable foundation for the collaborative Welsh Public Sector.

The PSBA Service Portal is designed to provide Welsh public sector organisations with online access to PSBA service related information via a single point of access.

The PSBA Network has been accredited for its ability to transport HMG Protectively Marked Traffic at the RESTRICTED or CESG IL3 level following a full audit by an authorised Accreditor from the Welsh Assembly Government.

PSBA are pleased to announce that the service has been selected as a finalist in the Chartered Institute of IT, BCS & Computing UK IT Industry Awards 2010, in the Project Excellence section. Initial judging took take place in August, and in October, finalists are invited to give final presentations to an expert panel of judges drawn from across the ICT industry. The winners will be announced at a gala evening event at the magnificent Battersea Park Events Arena, London on November 11th, and we hope to be able to communicate that the PSBA has won yet another award on behalf of all of its stakeholders.

Careers Wales (Mid Glamorgan and Powys) has decided to join PSBA replacing their existing network covering twelve sites and approximately 230 users. The PSBA is dedicated to providing services to all sizes of public service organisations, and Career Wales joining the service further demonstrates that we are delivering a service suitable for large and small organisations alike.

The next bi-annual Demand Forecase Questionnaire will be sent out in October 2010, the purpose of this questionnaire is to ensure the PSBA Network is capable of meeting the future demands of Network Users and has the capacity to include new products and services. This is a bi-annual snapshot of your networking plan and will give PSBA an invaluable insight to your ongoing network needs and we need and appreciate your input in accurately planning the future of the PSBA service.

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council recently signed up to reprovision all of its existing broadband circuits under the WAG PSBA agreement. Cllr. Andrea Davies, the Cabinet Member for ICT said, “The recent decision by our Council to replace its existing broadband network under the PSBA framework agreement has resulted in a number of positives as well as affording significant opportunities for the future. The delivery of flexible high end broadband services to all our schools and civic buildings will help maintain the best possible services to our citizens.”

The first annual PSBA User Forum was held in North Wales over 16th and 17th June 2010. This successful event, with an agenda driven by suggestions from the growing PSBA user community, ran over two days and focused on where PSBA is today but most importantly where PSBA is heading. Attendees from across the Welsh public sector were able to share ideas for the development of PSBA and to hear about current developments.

PSBA has won the Collaboration category in the Welsh Assembly 2010 Awards. The award recognizes that PSBA activities that have transcended institutional barriers to help improve relationships with stakeholders and citizens, join up departments across the public sector to enable collaboration and establish a common identity and culture.

During the month of April 2010 PSBA sent out to a small number of PSBA users a customer satisfaction survey for feedback on the PSBA Support Desk, Product / Service, Technical Support, Commercial Documents, Technical Document, Website and Customer Engagement.

PSBA would like to introduce a new piece of collateral called Benefit Management. Connection to the PSBA network paves the way for a range of longer term business benefits. By adopting a consistent approach to planning and measuring these benefits, organisations can collectively demonstrate and derive even greater value from being part of the PSBA community

PSBA would like to introduce a new piece of collateral called Security Overview. Information Assurance (IA) - Designed into The PSBA Network. The Public Sector is under increasing pressure to handle information, especially that of a personal nature, more securely. The damage caused to citizens and businesses, and to the reputation of the organisation when information is lost or mishandled is more sharply focused.

After the first series of successful PSBA workshops throughout Wales, that included the Technical and Commercial aspect of PSBA, we are now planning the next series, these will be shorter and more focused but value your input to make these even more successful.

The modernisation of the fire and rescue service has created a much greater dependency on ICT systems to support operational activities. In the Mid & West Wales Fire & Rescue Service for example, fire station personnel now need access to software systems to help them maintain their specialist competencies, identify high risk premises in their area and also to support their community fire safety prevention programmes.

To allow PSBA to ensure that the network is capable of meeting Network Users demands for new products and services the next bi-annual Demand Forecast Questionnaire will be sent out on the 28th April 2010 to the nominated contact for each of the Network Users sectors/groups.
